Preparing successful project proposal applications to obtain the funds for implementing the project is not an easy due to highly competitive stakeholders nowadays; and more than 10-20 applicants applied for granting from donor agencies, which make some NGOs fail to win the grant.

Therefore, Caritas Cambodia has conducted “Proposal writing skills” refresher training course to project managers and officers from 14th-17th January 2019 held at National Office in Phnom Penh.
There are 25 participants, of which 5 female staff participated in the 4 day-training, representing all regional offices and departments from Caritas national office. It was a good mix of participants from management team composting from different project such as community health program including mental and prison, and eye health care, and integrated community development program consists of livelihood and social enterprise…etc.

Even the participants have an extensive experienced in proposal writing, but they still have shown their interest to attend the training and expected to learn new knowledge and techniques to win the grant. 
The training organizer, Mrs. Sou Sotheany, program planning, monitoring and evaluation officer from Caritas Cambodia said there are three main objectives of the training for preparing successful project proposal. It aims (i) to give knowledge of developing a comprehensive proposal, (ii) to enhance the capacity and knowledge to program staff of the fifteen elements of the proposal, and (iii) to introduce to the art of proposal writing and tips to write each element and techniques to win the grant. This involves in collecting proper information and using analytical skills by using three effective training methodologies such as participatory, brainstorming, empowerment, and group work.

Mr. Sor Sovannara, the ICD project manager in Battambang province said it is the first time for him to attend the Proposal Writing training. He emphasized the training is important to build his competency in writing proposal. He learnt each element in the proposal and techniques to convince the reader (donor) for funding. He said “he strongly satisfied the training methods and trainer facilitation skills that enable to clear up his doubt in an easy way and guiding a clear step in writing proposal”, claimed Sonvannara.

In addition, the CH project manager in Siem Reap province said “I used to participate in writing proposal but I never know or attended the course before, but now, Caritas provided this golden opportunity to me to explore the elements of the proposal, and especially I deeply learnt how to analyze the cause using problem tree analysis tool”, claim Ms. Smien Ran.

The training is able to kick start under the financial support from the donor, and thanks to Caritas Spain for always support and strengthening the project staff competency.
