About Caritas Cambodia
Caritas Cambodia is an official social development arm of the Catholic Church in Cambodia. It has been built on the values of Love, Concern, Justice, Peace Unity, Sharing and brotherhood. It draws inspiration from the Gospel and aims at integral development of people irrespective of race and creed. Hence the objectives of Caritas Cambodia specifically include the following.

Two people died and around 30 houses were destroyed because of the rainstorms hit Battambang province on May 04, 2012. Immediately, Caritas Cambodia response its helps to the victims by providing them the emergency assistance needs such as rice, fish sauce, salt, sugar and canned fish.

An estimated 116 families in 7 villages were reported affected by rainstorm in Preytralach commune. Among all the destroyed houses 20 were fully destroyed while 18 were 70% destroyed.

Local authority collaborated with Cambodian Red Cross- Battambang Branch also provided relief aids included 25kg of rice, one canned noodle, one mosquito net, one blanket to affected families and 50,000 Riels. Moreover, Red Cross offered 100,000 Riels and 100 kg of rice to two families which lost one members received from and Caritas donated 600,000 Riels for each family.

Caritas Cambodia has been working on emergency response and recovery for short, medium and long-term to help out the victims. Caritas provided relief aids included food (rice, fish sauce, soy sauce, salt, sugar, and canned fish) and non-food (tent, water filter) to the affected families in response of short-term on May 11, 2012. To recover their livelihood in medium response we will support them rice seed and we will rebuild and repair their houses for long-term response.

National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) recently reported that in the first four months of 2012 there are six people died and the other 46 victims suffered by storm while lightening killed 25 people and wounded 24 people.
