About Caritas Cambodia
Caritas Cambodia is an official social development arm of the Catholic Church in Cambodia. It has been built on the values of Love, Concern, Justice, Peace Unity, Sharing and brotherhood. Bishop Enrique Figaredo, the Chairman of Caritas Cambodia is giving an opening speech.
On Thursday, April 30, 2015: Caritas’s Youth Development Program officially held the Certificate hand-over Ceremony to 219 graduate students and announced the opening of new course for the new school year 2015-2016. The event was presided over by the Deputy Governor of Kandal province, H.E. Kim Rithy and the Chairman of Caritas Cambodia, Bishop Enrique Figaredo, and took place at Caritas’s Youth Center in Kandal province.

In the welcoming remark by Bishop Enrique Figaredo, he expressed appreciation to all the students, program staff, and partners for their active participation and support to the success of the program. He said that hard-work and good attitude is not over after graduation. “You need to become a citizen with hope, courage, be open-minded, helpful, respectful to others, and commit to your vision”, emphasized Bishop Enrique.
Vuth Sreytouch, a graduate student in the course of Administration and Finance in the school year 2014-2015 said the achievement of all students today comes from their hard-work with the support from Caritas. She thanked all donors for their generous contribution to the program.

Deputy Governor of Kandal province, H.E. Kim Rithy, congratulated on the achievement of the graduates. He said “this is only the beginning of your bright future and you need to work harder in your career”.

A representative from students in the new school year 2015-2016, Ath San Ban, committed to study harder in order to get a good job after graduation. “In the future, we wish to become good citizens so that we can contribute to the betterment of our society”, said San Ban.
Caritas’s Youth Development Program targets 200 youth from the poor families, with disabilities, orphanage, and vulnerable group of young people in the rural areas to enter a one-year vocational training course. The program started in 1992. According to the program manager, Sary Phyrum, a total of 2,545 Cambodian youth have been trained with various skills and majority of them have jobs. A total of 11 skills are provided in the center and various workshops for the new school year.
Approximately 400 participants representing in-line government institutions, Caritas’s partners, youth associations, youth’s parents, and representatives from the Catholic Church attended the event. The ceremony was ended with a solidarity lunch at the center.
