H.E. Ross Sovann, Deputy Secretary General of National Committee for Disaster Management and Chairman of ASEAN Committee for Disaster Management (ACDM) and Mr. Pel Piseth, from Plan International are key speakers.
 
The National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) and its partner organizations hold a pre-press conference to discuss about the ASEAN Day on Disaster Management and International Day for Disaster Reduction at Caritas Cambodia office at 10. a. m on Friday, 02nd October 2015.

Cambodia, the ASEAN Committee for Disaster Management in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and its partner organizations will celebrate the ASEAN Day on Disaster Management (ADDM) in joint commemoration with the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) under the theme “ASEAN IS RESILIENT AS ONE”, from 09-10 October 2015 at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP).
The purpose of the pre-press conference is twofold. First, it aims to disseminate information and key messages of the upcoming ADDM and IDDR to media participants to get familiar with the program. Secondly, it allows media representatives to ask questions and help publicize it to a mass audience ahead of the event.

H.E. Ross Sovann, Deputy Secretary General of National Committee for Disaster Management and Chairman of ASEAN Committee for Disaster Management (ACDM) and Mr. Pel Piseth, from Plan International, represented contributing NGOs are invited to be guest speakers.
Speaking at the press conference this morning, H.E. Ross Sovann, said as the Chair of ASEAN Committee for Disaster Management this year, the Royal Government of Cambodia is privilege to host this important event. He said ““The focus this year is on the awareness raising of the ASEAN community on the One Community Resilient to Disaster and Climate Change through promoting Comprehensive Safe School Framework and the promotion on ASEAN’s response on climate change”.

Mr. Pel Piseth, representative from Plan International, said since disaster has affected many areas, namely health, agriculture, education and other social sectors. The sub-theme for ADDM 2015 and IDDR is “Working together as One in Making Children in Schools and Community Resilient to Disasters”, he added.
The conference was an interacting event with more than 20 journalists and reporters representing local television channels, international and national radio, English and local newspapers and online-news.
The conference is made possible with the support and partnerships between the National Committee for Disaster Management, its partner organizations, supporters, and media participants.
ADDM 2015 theme reflects the reinforcement of ASEAN’s joint efforts as One Community to address the interlocking issues of natural disasters, climate change and sustainable development. The sub-theme for ADDM 2015 and IDDR is “Working together as One in Making Children in Schools and Community Resilient to Disasters”.

About 20 media representatives came to cover the press conference at Caritas Cambodia office on 01 October 2015.
ADDM and IDDR 2015 will cover with four key activities including 1/ drawing competition on “School resilience in disaster and climate change embodying the ASEAN’s spirit and aspiration as ONE” , 2/ thematic discussion on “school safety initiatives, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaption”, 3/ panel discussion; and 4/ parade which will gather approximately 2,000 participants.

More than 2015 high-level quests, including ASEAN member states, ASEAN Secretariat, Senior Ministers, ambassadors, the United Nations agencies, development partners, local government executives, Cambodian Red Cross, civil society groups, community representatives, youth group, and private sector are expected to attend this important event.
